SPEAKER 1: Welcome to this brief tutorial on LiveTalk. All LiveTalks in CoursePlus use a service called Zoom for the LiveTalks. So we're going to start by getting set up correctly with Zoom. In order to participate in a LiveTalk, you must have a Zoom account. Now, this can be a free account. That's perfectly fine. If you already have an account through Johns Hopkins, you can use that. If you already have an account through your employer or somewhere else, you can use that as well. It does not have to be a paid account. You just must have an account in Zoom. If you need to sign up for account, you can do so at the link on the screen here, Zoom.us./signup. Once you have an account, you then need to download the Zoom installer from the link you see here on the screen and install the application so that it's ready to run the first time you join a LiveTalk. So let's look now at the steps involved in actually launching a LiveTalk. session. To join a LiveTalk, just go to any page in your class website. And at the top of the page, click on communication and then LiveTalk. The LiveTalk page will then appear. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see all the LiveTalks in that class. When you're ready to join a LiveTalk, click on the join LiveTalk button in order to join that session. The Zoom client will launch and then you can participate in your LiveTalk session. Let's do a quick tour of the Zoom interface. Up at the top, you can see few options and who is sharing your screen. By selecting a view options, you can shrink or resize the Zoom view. At the bottom, you'll see a number of controls, including your controls for audio and video and opening the chat window. Let's take a look at audio and video controls inside of Zoom. In the bottom left corner of the Zoom interface, there are controls for your audio and your video. And by default, your audio and video are turned off. If you do need to talk or the faculty asks you to talk, just click on mute and your microphone will be turned on. Same thing for video. If you happen to want to share your video, you can do that by simply clicking on start video and your video will begin to play. Next to both the video and audio controls are these upward pointing arrows. And if you click on the upward pointing arrows, it allows you to change your microphone input, as well as to test your speaker and microphone, which is always a good thing to do when you're just first joining a meeting. But perhaps more importantly is the Chat tool. The Chat tool lets you chat with other people in the LiveTalk without using your microphone. You open the Chat tool by clicking on the Chat button in the Zoom interface and the chat then appears. So while most of the communication in a LiveTalk session is public, you can also have some degree of private communication with your fellow students or TAs in the class. And you would do that through private messages in the chat interface. In order to send someone a private message, you need to have the chat window open. And then, in the chat window, you'd want to go down to this menu which normally defaults to say to everyone. That means you're going to send that chat message to everyone. But if you want to send a chat message to a specific person so that only that person sees it, you click on that everyone menu and you select the recipient from the list. So in this case, I've selected my recipient and the word privately shows up next to that to menu. If I type my message, that message only goes to that person and is only seen by that person and is marked as privately in the interface. You can only send private messages to one other person at a time. You cannot send group private messages from within the Zoom interface. So that's it for our brief tour of live talk and Zoom. You can test that you can actually connect to the Zoom application and play around in the Zoom interface at any time by using a link that you see on the screen here, Zoom.us/test.
